    Description

For sale is the last remaining cap canes from "Pop" Woerner's collection. These are the model 6's, 13 total. While not pristine, having more or less of the paper wrap remaining, they are still fully functional and a great example of early American toymaking. This would make an excellent Christmas gift for someone who appreciates this kind of item.
These were made by the American Novelty Works, Lancaster Pa. The company was started by William P. Woerner at 223 W. Grant St. as William P Woerner Manufacturing Works later to be American Novelty Works.  He also made other toys, including different models of cap canes and the "Yankee Doodle Aerial".
It has been in storage most of the last 100 years and only exhibits a slight amount of surface rust. The mechanism operates freely, and it takes standard single caps. It has never been fired. The paper red/white/blue striping on the shaft has some staining/flaking off but is in remarkably good condition for its age. It's 26 inches long.
An excellent example of early American toymaking, having solid construction and feel. It was passed down through our family from "Pop" Woerner (W.P. Woerner).
A copy of the ORIGINAL sales sheet is included, as well as a copy of the patent 1,382,588.
I will choose the best example of the lot, whatever is remaining. Purchase early to get the best ones, they are priced to go.
See my other listing for another of Pop Woerner's creations, a swing polly bird collection complete with stands. One of a kind early American toy.  Item # 203477732301
