American Novelty Works Repeater Model #9 Cap Cane Bang Stick 4th of July "New"

Description

This is an original, new old stock unused repeater cap cane, model #9 made by the American Novelty Works, Lancaster Pa. The company was started by William P Woerner at 223 W. Grant St as the W. P. Woerner Manufacturing Works, later to become the American Novelty Works. He also made other toys, including different models of cap canes and the "Yankee Doodle Aerial".
It has been in storage most of the last 100 years and exhibits almost no surface rust. The mechanism operates freely, and it takes roll caps of standard size. The paper red/white/blue striping on the shaft has some very minor staining/flaking off, but is in remarkably good condition for its age. It's 26 inches long.
This has been passed down through the family from WP ("Pop") Woerner.
An excellent example of early American toymaking, having solid construction and feel.
If this is to be actually used to fire caps, a drop or two of sparingly placed oil will ensure smooth operation.
A starter roll of standard caps is included, as well as a
copy of the ORIGINAL sales sheet (see photo). Also included are 2 biographical sketched of WP Woerner and copies of 3 different patents that he held.
