    Description

    This is a poster stamp issued to commemorate the use of the atomic bomb in World War 2. The first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb, the Enola Gay, was piloted by Colonel Paul W. Tibbets and targeted Hiroshima, Japan. A second bomb was later dropped on Nagasaki. This led to the surrender of Japan to the Allies in World War 2 in August of 1945. The stamp is based on a design created for use by the United States Postal Service, but the USPS stamp was rescinded after protests from the Japanese government in 1994. The original rescinded stamp and its replacement are shown in the second scan for informational purposes only and are not included. The stamp is a cinderella stamp and was not issued by the USPS and is not valid for postage.
    The stamp is
    in mint, never hinged self-adhesive condition. (It is larger than and less commonly seen than the moisture activated variety.)  It
    would make an interesting addition to any collection of World War 2 memorabilia, United States or Japanese history or cinderella stamps.
