    Top 2 stamps (including the
    cracked plate
    variety) are
    never hinged
    , bottom 2 stamps previously (lightly) hinged.  Position #2 in the strip (stamp above the line) with
    plate crack
    (from the left margin into the medallion of the stamp; a Scott-listed, French listed, Johl-listed variety).  The strip is fresh, attractive, sound, and definitely
    scarce
    (the only example of these I can recall handling)!
    The French reference lists a very similar type III crack (looks to be in the same location but a later state) for the watermarked Scott 450 however this strip is definitely unwatermarked.  Johl lists this exact crack as type II* (Scott “487”) but this is definitely type III (Scott 488).  Illustration included.
